PETE GULSBY
Pete Gulsby, one of the early super mod drivers, was the main inspiration for the Langham boys to enter the sport of stock car racing. He was employed by D.O. Thompson auto parts of downtown Theodore and drove for McLaney's garage. He was injured in 1963 after leaving back straight away at Five Flags, and an encounter with trees. Doctors had to put a steel plate in his head, but he raced the following season with a sponge in his helmet. Pete continued to race late model models until the 1970s.
